Lois May Laughlin
Glen Burnie, Maryland
November 24, 1936 - May 13, 2021
Lois May Laughlin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elanore and Russell Snyder. She was the third of seven children, three girls and four boys. She developed a strong work ethic early on and held a variety of jobs throughout her life, doing everything from serving food to providing hospice care to owing and operating a restaurant and hotel. She was a unique mixture of elegance and tomboy, with a fondness for jewelry, stylish clothes, cute shoes, music, dancing - and sports. She hated to miss a game and had the hockey and football schedules well-in-hand before the season started. The Capitals, the Flyers, and the Eagles were her favorite teams, though she wasn't above showing them some tough love and turning the tv to a different channel to watch a better game when they played badly. She played various sports herself in her younger years and wasn't above a good game of ball in the yard with the kids. She was a member of the Traveling Bowling League and helped establish the Oxford Golden Bears football team. She loved simple, beautiful things, particularly flowers. Summer was her favorite time of the year and whether she was mowing grass or sitting by the pool, she could always be found outside in the sun on hot summer days soaking up the sunshine. She was up bright and early every morning enjoying the news or the outdoors and a good cup of coffee with whoever happened to be around. She liked to pass her free time doing ceramics, crocheting, reading Amish or Native American romance novels, playing cards, and watching action movies. She was a master at Monopoly and would gladly take all comers. She was married to her husband J Albert Laughlin for many years and was the mother of six children, two girls and four boys. Her pragmatic mindset and mischievous sense of humor stood her in good stead for her roles as Albert's wife and mother of numerous practical jokers. She loved to travel and having family in a variety of places gave her a good excuse to do so. She lived at different times with family in Florida and Louisiana and vacationed in places like Myrtle Beach, Hawaii, and the Bahamas. She always brought a novelty picture frame back from wherever she'd been and made sure there was a memorable picture to put in it. She relished meeting new people and made friends wherever she went, whether that was down the street or across the country. She kept in close contact with her loved ones and rarely forgot to call or send cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions. She was a member of several local clubs, including the Eagles Club of Oxford, the Ladies Auxiliary of Oxford, and the Elkton Senior Center. Lois was preceded in death by her father Russell Snyder; mother Elanore Snyder; brother Wilmer Snyder, sister Janet Snyder, and her husband J Albert Laughlin. She is survived by her brothers Kim Snyder (and wife Lois), Bon Snyder (and wife Sandy), Dean Snyder, and sister Debra Rawlins (and husband Barry); her children, Jerry Harvey (and wife Ruth), Ruthanna Stanley, Will Laughlin (and wife Terry), James Laughlin (and wife Wendy), Kimberly Kiger (and husband Chris), Jay Laughlin (and wife Jolene), and 18 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She is dearly loved and greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on May 29, 2021 at 528 Red Hill Road, Elkton, Maryland 21921.
